Rhinoplasty Consultation
The rhinoplasty consultation is a vital step in the journey to having successful nose surgery. Having a rhinoplasty surgeon who regularly performs rhinoplasty surgery examine your nose and assess how it relates to your overall facial features is invaluable. In fact, it is typically a good idea to go to two or three consultations in order to gather the most information about your options. Often surgeons will have varying approaches and recommendations about how to proceed with treatment. The consultation process will allow you to become as well-informed and educated as possible, allowing you to choose the surgeon that works best for you.
The Consultation Process
During your rhinoplasty consultation Dr. Lamperti will have you personally describe what specific concerns you have with your nose. This includes general characteristics such as overall nasal size, width, asymmetry, and shape in addition to more specific areas such as tip shape and orientation (tip bulbosity, droopy tip, upturned tip); bridge shape (dorsal hump, under-projected bridge, saddle nose deformity); columellar position (excess columellar show, hanging columella, columellar retraction). Next, Dr. Lamperti will ask you about any functional nasal breathing problems, prior nasal surgery or trauma, and allergy symptoms. He will also carefully examine the external nose to assess its aesthetics and see how it relates to the rest of the face. Dr. Lamperti will also evaluate your nasal passages to see if there are any issues with your septum, turbinates, or external/internal nasal valves that need to be addressed.
Once Dr. Lamperti has completed his assessment he will discuss your treatment options and which features of your nose could be changed with rhinoplasty surgery. Dr. Lamperti can also take medical photos during your consultation and perform a digital morphing to simulate potential rhinoplasty results. This process provides valuable insight as to how various changes to the nose affect overall facial aesthetics. No two rhinoplasties are exactly the same and so the surgical plan will be unique for every patient. Nasal shape, breathing ability and rhinoplasty goals need to be established individually during each consultation process.
Once your customized surgical plan is formulated post-surgery expectations and recovery are discussed. Dr. Lamperti will also review the before and after results of other patients that he has operated on to allow you to better determine his overall aesthetic and see what type of real-world results are possible.
